I've tried my best with the frames i have to work with, i've tried to slow it down just enough for it to make a difference but not to much that it looks like a slide show. I've also played with the sharpness to try and get a bit more detail from what we shot yesterday.

Playing/experimenting with the glowing goo
We did record all of our test by talking about them, yet the camera we had to use is so bad the built in microphone doesn't even work properly. It looks like i am going to have to type what we intended to do. You may also want to turn off the sound down because even though some of these videos don't have sound they do still have a loud crackling noise which can get very annoying.
In this first video we are mixing water based lubrication with you guessed it, water. We did this to create a more thicker substance to later put the glow stick fluid into.
Same again, it has sound, although towards the end it does start to crackle, so watch your speakers.
Sound once again. I am actually going to try and slow some of the more clear tests down just to get a feel for what it may look like at 2000 fps.
I feel this would look 100 times better with a decent camera, but we had to make do, with a high speed camera we want to capture the splatters and slow them down considerably so that we can give it a very magical feeling.
I just love ho much light they give off, it's amazing.

This video very crudely shows the Florissant liquid being dropped into the thicker water based lube substance. Interestingly enough it behaves rather like a lava lamp.

Here i was blowing on the surface of the water to try and create a cool effect.
After these shots one of us dropped the lube liquid on the floor and it went everywhere, after all lubrication is slippery. So after this we banded together what glow sticks we had left and decided to use two different colours.

This doesn't look like much but i keep thinking in purposes of slow motion, if we do get access to the high speed camera i could imagine this looking incredible, two colours melding together and UNITing
After conducting these tests we have a better understand of how to conduct ourselves for the future, and also we now understand what works and what does work, also... we need a better camera with a working microphone.

Working together
Me and a Nick Booth have decided to join forces. We decided this because we both want to do something ambisious but doing it alone may become problematic with just one person working on it. Our idea has been split into 3 separate ideas. Nick got into contact with Tim Allen who is composing the piece for the Twilight Grand finale. This piece of music is one continuous composition but it still has three distinct flavours. These flavours are:
Unite which is all about the early days of Sheffield and people coming together.
Arise which is about how Sheffield became a industrial giant.
Alight which is more about the landscape of Sheffield and night and day.
We know this because we have also been sent the lyrics to this composition. Our idea is as follows:
For Unite we want to use a high speed camera to film florissant liquid preferable the liquid from glow sticks, then do interesting things with the glowing matter. We want this part to be more abstract and playful to draw the viewer in rather than being to literal, which I think is rather boring. At the end of this section we also plan on having all the colourful liquid come together in a glass to show cultural diversity. Arise on the other hand talks about the steelworks, I've have links with a rolling mill so it would be nice to go and film the red hot steel for this section, then later add in other footage of sparks and possibly some iconic old shut down factories around Sheffield. Then finally for Alight we are planning on writing up a questionnaire, then walking the streets of Sheffield asking the chosen age ground what their favourite parts of Sheffield are, then tallying them up and choosing 2 key locations to go film at using time-lapse.
We have taken inspiration from this video for the slow motion goo, in this advert paint is put onto a speaker and what is seen here actually lasts for around 1 millisecond. Both of us find things in slow motion fascinating, majestic and just plain awesome.
We want to achieve something unique with this once in a lifetime opportunity but we don't want to make anything to literal, however you could argue the both the steel works and the time lapse is very literal but we do still have to stick to the brief, we just want to put a new twist on thing.
We presented to the client and these are the slides we used:

Going around Sheffield
Ok this is my idea, as i said in my previous post i want to have old and new Sheffield containing random parts of Sheffield that only people from Sheffield would know about, some things maybe not being amazing but only what Sheffield have and then putting that into a projection. However one advantage i do have is that my Father works at a steel rolling mill and hopefully i will be able to go and film/take pictures of what they do which being a steel city, once the biggest producer of steel in the world needs to be a key feature in my projection. This plays to my advantage as hot steel is very bright which links in with my idea of blinding light.
It would be fantastic to catch this in action.
Really i just want to capture what is great about Sheffield and putting it in a projection.

Sheffield History and iconic places to film
I thought it was time to start thinking about what i need to do, after all i can safely say i'm not short on ramblings, i mean research. Right here is what i'm thinking of doing.
I am drawn strongly towards doing the projection for the "Twilight Finale" which is meant to revolves around the history of Sheffield, i have some idea on what i would like to do. However i know i am doing motion graphics but i feel a hand drawn style animation wouldn't really fit in at this type of event. One idea was having a then and now flashback kind of thing, things like that have always interested me.
